FAQ - Honda Ignition Lock Repair & Rebuilding

Why won’t my Honda key turn in the ignition?

Common causes include worn or sticking wafers, a worn key, debris inside the keyway or damaged internal lock components. Continuing to force or wiggle the key can eventually cause the ignition to stop turning completely.

Can my original Honda ignition lock be rebuilt?

In many cases, yes. We disassemble and inspect the original ignition lock, corrects or replaces worn internal components and rebuilds the cylinder for reliable operation whenever its condition allows.

Why rebuild the original ignition instead of replacing it?

Rebuilding can preserve the original key configuration, allowing the same key to continue operating the ignition, doors and other vehicle locks. It may also eliminate the need for a separate replacement key.

Will my existing Honda key still work after the repair?

Whenever practical, we rebuild the original ignition to operate with the customer’s existing Honda key. The final result depends on the condition of the key and lock components.

Will my Honda key need to be programmed again?

Normally, no. When you continue using your existing programmed transponder key, the electronic key data does not change. Additional programming may be necessary only if a replacement key is required.

Do I need a working key to use this service?

Not always. Contact  us with the vehicle year, model and details about the existing keys. We will confirm what parts and if keys must be shipped before you send anything.

What part do I need to mail?

Most repairs require the mechanical ignition lock or ignition-lock assembly. Required components can vary by model and condition, so contact ACM Locksmith Group before removing or shipping parts.

Can my mechanic remove and reinstall the ignition lock?

Yes. A qualified mechanic or repair shop can normally remove the ignition assembly, ship it to us and reinstall it after the repair. ACM Locksmith Group does not provide free removal instructions or technical support for vehicles we are not servicing.

What should I do if my Honda key breaks inside the ignition?

Do not try to dig out the broken key or force the ignition cylinder. This can push the key farther inside or damage the internal wafers. Contact ACM Locksmith Group before removing or shipping anything. A qualified mechanic may need to remove the ignition assembly.

Should I keep forcing or wiggling the key?

No. Continued force can damage the key, wafers or other internal components. If the ignition becomes increasingly difficult to turn, have it repaired before the key breaks or the lock stops operating completely.

How long does Honda ignition-lock repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 3–5 business days after the confirmed components arrive, depending on the lock’s condition and parts availability. Shipping time is additional.

How do I know my ignition is safe in the mail?
We confirm receipt of your package and return the completed parts using tracked shipping. Package the ignition securely and follow the shipping instructions provided by ACM Locksmith Group.
